At last a beautiful spacious and light gallery at home where I can exhibit and celebrate Suzanis and their unique beauty. It always makes me sad that Suzanis have to spend so much time folded away and at last I hope to give them all the chance to be exhibited and admired. The Gallery will be open afternoons from 2 to 6 by appointment only and It will be a beautiful space where friends can visit to learn more about this ancient tradition and see first hand just how glorious they really still are. Photographs do not do them justice, you have to see and experience a Suzani to “feel” her underlying language of motifs and colour.
The gallery is ready for visits during the afternoon from 2 to 6 .
Please note by appointment only by phone or email, Instagram or Facebook .
The old Suzaniroom will still be the “heart of Suzanis” and the new gallery the exhibition space.
The most magnificent All Silk Shahrisabz Suzani , the first to be opened from the new parcel . ( She found a home immediately )
My favorite from this new parcel. The golden All Silk Bukhara Suzani.
March 2019 There were so many new beautiful Suzanis in the new parcel, the dogs fell asleep at our feet without me noticing !
Penny could not resist and took these new Suzanis home overnight, I am happy to say she wants to keep the Shahrisabz !
I am also delighted to offer prints of my daughter Maria Baumann’s recent work in my new Gallery.
She has been inspired by the theme of the Tree of Life as seen in Suzani creation eversince our exhibition together at the Irma Stern Museum 2016 called “Sewing Paradise” . 20 South African women artists were invited to collaborate in creating works inspired by the theme of the walled ancient gardens of Persia and the Tree of Life placed in a South African context.
Her work can be seen on her website
